Brooklyn Made has abruptly shut down following a complex legal battle between its owners Anthony Makes and Kelly Winrich.

The Bushwick music venue, which operated for nearly four years, announced its closure with a brief message stating all shows are cancelled and ticket refunds will be issued at point of purchase.

The closure stems from serious allegations between the venue's founders. Winrich accused Makes and his wife of fraudulent inducement and breach of fiduciary duties, claiming they:

  • Falsely promised lucrative partnerships, including a potential Spotify investment
  • Mismanaged business ventures
  • Diverted company funds for personal use
  • Locked Winrich out of finances and operations

According to court documents, these actions allegedly led Winrich and his family to invest over $75 million in multiple live music ventures. While the exact terms remain private, the parties reached a settlement agreement that resulted in the venue's closure.

Makes, a former Live Nation executive, expressed satisfaction with the partnership's end, stating: "I am very pleased that this partnership has ended and I am out of those buildings. I'm confident my 35 years of contributing to the live music business speaks for itself."

The sudden shutdown caught many fans and artists off guard, as Brooklyn Made had scheduled shows well into the future. Affected performances are being relocated to other venues, with Amigo the Devil's May 7th concert moving to The Sultan Room.

This closure highlights the ongoing challenges faced by independent music venues in the current economic climate, particularly when complicated by internal disputes and legal battles.
