Deadmau5 Sells Music Catalog and Label Rights to Create Music Group in $55M Deal
Deadmau5 has sold his extensive music catalog to Create Music Group in a deal reportedly worth $55 million. The agreement encompasses over 4,000 compositions and recordings, including both his personal works and releases from his Mau5trap label, established in 2007.

The deal includes a joint venture for future collaborations between Deadmau5 and Create Music. Both parties emphasized their established professional relationship and shared vision for expanding the reach of the catalog.
While significant, the $55 million price tag is notably lower than other recent EDM catalog sales, such as Calvin Harris's deal. This raises questions about EDM catalog valuations in the current market, especially considering:
- The impact of AI models on electronic music
- An expanding library of new electronic music
- Recent industry moves by major labels like Warner Music, Sony Music, and Believe
- The launch of dance-focused investment funds
Create Music Group, backed by Flexpoint Ford, recently secured a $165 million raise and acquired a 50% stake in Enhanced Music. However, the company faces legal challenges, including a lawsuit from Artist Partner Group regarding alleged unauthorized artist poaching and content monetization, with a March 15th deadline to respond.
The company recently settled a separate lawsuit with rapper Mazzeratti Duke over unauthorized music distribution claims.
