Drake and Chris Brown face a $5 million copyright lawsuit over their hit song "No Guidance," filed by singer Brainz Dore in New Jersey.

The lawsuit alleges that "No Guidance" copied multiple elements from Dore's 2016 song "I Got It," including chord progressions, tempo, melody, and lyrics. Producer Anderson Hernandez (Vinylz), who allegedly discovered Dore's song on YouTube before working with Drake and Brown, is also named in the suit.
The case extends beyond the artists, targeting YouTube and Google for removing a copyright comparison video created by Dore's legal team. This removal has sparked debate about how tech platforms handle copyright disputes involving high-profile artists.
This isn't Drake and Brown's first copyright challenge. They previously faced allegations from Brandon Cooper and Timothy Valentine over "No Guidance" similarities to "I Love Your Dress," which both artists denied.
The lawsuit highlights growing challenges in music copyright enforcement during the streaming era, where:
- Vast music catalogs are easily accessible
- Musical elements frequently overlap
- Digital platforms enable rapid music sharing
- Boundaries between inspiration and infringement blur
The case's outcome could significantly impact how artists approach collaborations, sampling, and credit attribution in the future, potentially leading to stricter copyright enforcement standards in the music industry.
