Drake Denies Authenticity of Leaked Universal Music Group DMs
Drake denies sending a private Instagram DM to stylist Chris Blake Griffith about his ongoing legal battle with Universal Music Group (UMG), stating the message is completely fabricated.

The alleged DM, posted by Griffith on Tuesday, contained detailed explanations about Drake's legal actions against UMG, comparing his situation to "Nike funding a campaign about LeBron cheating on his wife." The message also discussed making the music industry "a safer place for every artist moving forward."
Drake's associate Akademiks quickly addressed the situation on social media, stating "This is a fake DM. Drake called buddy a rat... he got mad and made up some fake DM to try to make the blogs and go viral."
The controversy comes amid Drake's two pre-action legal petitions against UMG filed in November. These petitions allege that:
- UMG used bots and payola schemes to artificially boost Kendrick Lamar's diss track "Not Like Us"
- The company committed defamation by allowing the release of content accusing Drake of inappropriate behavior
Two important court hearings are scheduled:
- January 13: Hearing to determine if Drake can depose UMG and iHeartMedia employees
- January 16: Second hearing regarding Drake's filing against UMG and Spotify
The original December 20 court date has been postponed to accommodate these new hearing schedules.
