Ex-Gangster to Sue Diddy's Mom Over Bad Boy Entertainment Publishing Rights
Ex-gangster Deon 'D1' Best plans to sue Diddy's mother, Janice Combs, over alleged fraudulent business practices at Bad Boy Entertainment. Best made these revelations during an appearance on DailyMail.com's 'The Trial of Diddy' podcast.

Diddy and mother smile together
Best, now 56 and a youth sports coach, claims Sean 'Diddy' Combs used his mother's name to conceal publishing rights and business dealings. According to Best, his company, Finish Line Entertainment, arranged deals for several albums in the late 1990s, including Notorious B.I.G.'s platinum-selling 'Born Again.'
The lawsuit centers on Best's publishing rights allegedly being transferred to Janice Combs' name without proper authorization. Best argues these actions fall under RICO Act violations and caused significant financial harm to multiple artists. Rapper Ma$e made similar allegations in 2020, claiming Diddy's mother held various business receipts.
Best's connection to Diddy stems from the late 1990s, where he served as a protector during Los Angeles visits, particularly during tensions with Death Row Records' Suge Knight. He was present the night Notorious B.I.G. was killed in March 1997.
These allegations surface while Diddy faces federal charges including sex trafficking and racketeering, with a trial scheduled for May 2025. The lawsuit could have significant implications for Bad Boy Entertainment and similar industry practices, where label owners traditionally claimed portions of artists' publishing rights.
