Explicit Adult Videos Found in Spotify Search Results, Company Takes Action
Porn videos have unexpectedly appeared in Spotify search results, raising concerns about content moderation on the music streaming platform. A Reddit user discovered explicit content after searching for "mia," which returned pornographic thumbnails and videos, including content featuring former adult film actress Mia Khalifa.

The explicit content appears to exploit Spotify's new video feature through the platform's podcast upload system. While The Verge couldn't locate the specific video mentioned in the Reddit post, they found several other pornographic results during their investigation. Some accounts have been publishing erotic audio for years, but the recent addition of video capabilities has enabled more explicit visual content.
Spotify has responded by removing the offending content, citing violations of their platform policies which explicitly prohibit sexually explicit material. However, the reporting process remains cumbersome, requiring users to submit reports through a webpage rather than directly within the app.
This isn't Spotify's first content moderation challenge. In 2022, Vice reported on the presence of explicit audio content and graphic playlist cover art on the platform. Additionally, Spotify has previously faced criticism for hosting neo-Nazi and white supremacist content, leading to the removal of 37 bands following a Digital Music News report.
The platform maintains strict policies against both sexually explicit material and content designed to incite hate, though enforcement challenges persist as content creators find new ways to circumvent these restrictions.
