His daughters, Jessica and Maya, have filed for temporary conservatorship in Los Angeles Superior Court. The petition specifically requests that Pinfield's girlfriend, Kara Brown, not be notified of the conservatorship attempt.
Pinfield's career began as a DJ broadcasting from his East Brunswick family home before gaining prominence at the Melody Bar in the 1980s. He later became program director at WHTG-FM, where he helped promote alternative rock bands like The Cure and R.E.M. His most notable role was as an MTV VJ, hosting "120 Minutes" from 1995 to 1999.
Most recently, Pinfield worked at Los Angeles' KCSN rock station. His last social media post, made about three weeks ago, expressed gratitude for his life in music: "Starting another week with gratitude for a life surrounded by great people, life-changing music, and unforgettable experiences that I never take for granted. Here's to another week — another day — open heart and open mind. Let's rock!"
