The controversy stems from Drake's ongoing legal battle with Universal Music Group (UMG), which includes allegations about the controversial track. Drake's legal team is pressuring the NFL to prevent Lamar from performing the song, which contains serious allegations against Drake, including accusations of pedophilia in its lyrics.
The situation has escalated beyond a typical rap beef, with Drake filing defamation lawsuits against UMG in both New York and Texas courts. The lawsuit alleges that UMG, along with Spotify and iHeartRadio, participated in an "illegal scheme" to promote Lamar's diss track and secure his Super Bowl performance.
Industry figures, including Joe Budden, have criticized Drake's legal approach, noting that rap disputes traditionally avoid courtroom intervention. Despite the billion-dollar defamation threats, sources close to Lamar indicate he intends to perform "Not Like Us" during his halftime show.
An insider source confirms: "He won't back down. He doesn't care about what Drake says or what he thinks about the song; it's a hit. Kendrick won't be silenced or shut down."
The NFL's final decision regarding the performance remains pending, but current indicators suggest the show will proceed as planned, including the controversial track.
