
Live Music Society Awards $1M to Support Small Music Venues in 2024
Live Music Society granted $1 million to 58 small music venues in 2024, with plans to open its 3rd Annual Music in Action grant applications in January 2025.

The Music in Action grant program, launched in 2023, helps venues develop audiences, boost community engagement, increase visibility, and promote diversity through innovative live programming. Grant recipients have successfully expanded their community impact:
- The Spot on Kirk in Roanoke, Virginia created "Música y Cultura," a ten-event series celebrating Hispanic heritage
- Bossa Bistro in Washington D.C. launched the Bossa Tributary Project, featuring global musicians and cultural performances
- Rebel Rebel Studio & Lounge in Berea, Kentucky developed workshops on sound engineering, branding, and arts activism
In 2024, Live Music Society distributed:
- $710,000 in Music in Action grants
- $290,000 in Toolbox grants to 34 venues for practical improvements
Since its 2020 founding, the organization has:
- Awarded $4.1 million through 210 grants
- Supported 180 small music venues
- Expanded to new states including Nevada, Kansas, and Georgia
- Hosted the first Music in Action Summit with 31 grantee venues
- Partnered with NIVA, House of Songs, and the Americana Music Association
The next grant application period opens in January 2025, continuing their mission to strengthen independent venues and support live music accessibility nationwide.
