A massive ticket scam has defrauded approximately 400 Taylor Swift fans in Canada, resulting in losses exceeding $300,000. The scam primarily targeted fans in Burlington, Ontario, who attempted to purchase tickets for Swift's Eras Tour show in Toronto.

The scammer, known as "Denise" on Facebook, claimed to have access to corporate tickets through a third-party seller. Victims were promised tickets to Swift's November 15 Toronto show, with delivery scheduled just days before the event - similar to Ticketmaster's legitimate delivery timeline.

Key Details of the Scam:

  • Approximately 450 tickets were promised to buyers
  • Individual victims paid around $2,500 for four tickets
  • The scam spread across multiple provinces and into the United States
  • Victims created a shared Google document tracking losses
  • The scammer was a known community member, which added credibility

One victim, Annette Newton, performed due diligence by:

  • Speaking directly with the seller
  • Checking references from other buyers
  • Verifying the seller's Facebook presence
  • Contacting previous customers

When the delivery date arrived, the seller claimed the third-party supplier had disappeared with the money. Halton Regional Police spokesperson Jeff Dillon confirmed multiple reports have been filed, and an investigation is ongoing.

Law enforcement advises residents to exercise extreme caution when purchasing tickets from third-party sellers, regardless of apparent credibility or community connections.
