Music Company CEO Fires 99 Unpaid Interns After Single Missed Meeting
A Musicians Club CEO has abruptly terminated 90% of his workforce—99 out of 110 employees—following a morning meeting on November 15 that most staff members reportedly weren't aware of or couldn't attend.

CEO Baldvin Oddsson announced the mass firing through a Slack message, stating, "Out of 110 people, only 11 were present this morning. Those 11 get to stay. The rest of you are terminated." He accused the absent staff of failing to meet their contractual obligations and lacking commitment.
However, multiple affected employees have shared contradicting accounts on Reddit:
- Many received no notice of the meeting
- Some lacked access to relevant Slack channels
- Several were new hires who had just joined that morning
- The remote, unpaid workforce operated across different time zones, making scheduling challenging
The terminated employees were predominantly unpaid interns and part-time workers, mainly classical music students seeking experience. A recent job listing for an unpaid operations manager position had promised potential "full-time paid conversion in 2025" and attracted 51 applicants.
Former staff members have criticized the company's business model, which relies heavily on unpaid remote interns. The CEO defended his decision on LinkedIn, maintaining it was the right choice for his business despite social media backlash calling the move heartless.
