According to the lawsuit, Boyd wrote and recorded a demo titled "Like the Way It Sounds" in November 2019 as a voice note. She shared this work with Kanye West, who allegedly played it for Travis Scott in a Wyoming studio.
Key allegations in the lawsuit include:
- Scott allegedly accessed Boyd's song through the Wyoming studio
- In May 2023, Scott introduced the work to SZA and Future
- The three artists allegedly used lyrics and other elements without permission to create "Telekinesis" (released July 2023)
- Boyd is credited as a co-writer in streaming metadata, appearing in top results for "Like the Way It Sounds" on platforms like Spotify and YouTube
- Audemars Piguet attempted to license "Telekinesis" for an ad campaign in November 2023
- The defendants reportedly offered Boyd an 8% writing credit, which she declined
Boyd is seeking substantial damages and a preliminary injunction to stop further broadcasting of "Telekinesis." The case has been filed under docket number 1:25-cv-00181.
