Shailene Woodley Will Perform Her Own Vocals as Janis Joplin in Upcoming Biopic
Shailene Woodley has confirmed she will personally perform Janis Joplin's songs in an upcoming musical biopic, where she'll both star and produce. The project, which received a $2.5 million tax credit from the California Film Commission, has been in development for seven years.
During her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Woodley shared insights about the challenging preparation for the role. Initially apprehensive about singing, she worked closely with renowned music producer Linda Perry to develop her vocal abilities.

"[Joplin] is such a groovy chick, man. She really brought the light to this planet in a singular way," Woodley explained. She described how Perry helped her find her own voice through unconventional methods, including impromptu performances with a full band in empty warehouses.
The film, scheduled to begin production with a budget of approximately $10 million in qualified expenditures, will shoot over 30 days. It joins a lineup of anticipated musical biopics featuring other legendary artists like Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, and The Beatles.
