Multiple fans have reported receiving unexpected emails from Ticketmaster notifying them that their tickets were transferred to other accounts without their consent. While some cases have been resolved after media intervention, many remain unresolved, with fans losing thousands of dollars. Some resolved cases have experienced subsequent reversals, with tickets returning to unauthorized accounts.
A Ticketmaster spokesperson emphasized the importance of digital transaction records in investigating and restoring compromised tickets. They advised users to create strong, unique passwords, particularly for email accounts, as these are often the initial point of security breaches.
Security Concerns:
- Ticketmaster experienced a data breach earlier this year, exposing user names, contact details, and payment information
- The platform lacks two-factor authentication (2FA) for account logins and ticket transfers
- 2FA is available for other functions like printing tickets and email changes
- The company claims digital ticketing has reduced fraud compared to paper tickets
The Eras Tour resumes on October 18 in Miami, followed by shows in Toronto and Vancouver in November and December. The transfer pause will remain in effect until three days before each show date.
