The operation involved collaboration between CBP officers, HSI special agents, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, who intercepted suspicious cargo containers from Asia. Gibson later confirmed the guitars were counterfeit, emphasizing that authentic Gibson guitars are exclusively manufactured in the United States.

CBP Director Cheryl M. Davies warns consumers about fraudulent guitars sold through unauthorized channels, particularly during holiday shopping seasons. These counterfeits can appear convincingly authentic to unsuspecting buyers purchasing through third-party online sources, street markets, or person-to-person transactions.

Gibson CEO Cesar Gueikian expressed gratitude for the agencies' efforts in protecting consumers and fans from counterfeit products. He strongly advises customers to purchase directly from manufacturers or authorized dealers to ensure authenticity.

As Gibson celebrates its 130th anniversary, the company continues to maintain its commitment to American craftsmanship, with all genuine Gibson instruments being handcrafted in Nashville, Tennessee, or Bozeman, Montana, meeting the highest quality standards.
