The charges include abandonment of a person followed by death and narcotics-related offenses. The suspects include:
- A hotel employee who allegedly supplied cocaine to Payne twice
- A drug supplier
- An individual who had been accompanying Payne daily in Buenos Aires
Preliminary toxicology results confirmed cocaine in Payne's system, with final results expected in the coming weeks. The autopsy revealed death was caused by traumatic injuries from the three-story fall. Investigators discovered evidence of narcotics and alcohol in his room, suggesting a substance-induced episode preceded the incident.
Prosecutors indicate Payne may have fallen while in a state of "semi or total unconsciousness," noting a lack of defensive injuries. Additional items found in his possession included clonazepam and various over-the-counter medications.
Prior to his death, the 31-year-old singer had been candid about his struggles with mental health and substance abuse, claiming to have achieved sobriety just months before the incident.
