Eric Holder, convicted of killing Nipsey Hussle, has had his appeal denied by California's Court of Appeal. The Second Appellate District judges upheld the original 2022 guilty verdict on November 5.

Holder's appeal challenged two main aspects of his conviction:

  • The court's decision to disallow portions of his attorney's closing argument about his state of mind
  • The addition of a firearm enhancement to his sentence

The appeals court rejected both arguments, noting that Holder never testified and no evidence was presented about his thoughts or feelings before the shooting. The court also affirmed that the firearm enhancement was properly applied, citing the "high degree of cruelty, viciousness, and callousness" in Hussle's murder.

The 2019 killing significantly impacted the hip-hop community, with artists like Freddie Gibbs revealing that the murder nearly led him to quit music. Gibbs addresses this in his new track "On the Set" and his album "You Only Die 1nce," where he also reflects on other significant losses in hip-hop history.
