Nocturne Features and Requirements:

  • Full playback controls
  • Playlist management
  • Artist and album exploration
  • Real-time interface updates
  • Requires Spotify Premium account
  • Needs additional Raspberry Pi for operation
  • Compatible with Windows, macOS, and Linux

Technical Specifications:

  • 4" touch screen with control knob
  • 512MB RAM
  • 4GB internal storage
  • Amlogic S905D2 SoC processor

The open-source project, developed by Brandon Saldan, provides all necessary tools and instructions for flashing Nocturne firmware onto the Car Thing. This solution prevents the device from becoming e-waste when Spotify ends support, transforming it into a functional desktop or car music controller.

While the installation requires some technical knowledge and additional hardware, it offers a sustainable alternative to discarding the device, particularly valuable for users who purchased the Car Thing during its brief $100 retail period.
