Deezer has partnered with SACEM to implement its 'artist-centric payment system (ACPS)' for publishing rights in France, becoming the first digital service provider to update its streaming remuneration model for publishing.

The new model offers double remuneration for songs by artists who achieve:

  • At least 1,000 streams
  • From 500 different subscribers monthly
  • Active searches or placement in non-algorithmic playlists

This system aims to:

  • Direct more subscriber payments to artists they actively listen to
  • Combat streaming fraud
  • Support working artists who maintain an active fanbase
  • Create a more equitable distribution of revenue

Deezer CEO Alexis Lanternier emphasizes the company's commitment to innovation within the music ecosystem, while SACEM CEO Cécile Rap-Veber highlights how the ACPS model rewards genuine music consumption while accounting for diverse genres and aesthetics.

The partnership extends Deezer's ACPS model, which was initially launched for recorded music in 2023, to now cover publishing rights. Both organizations expect this model to inspire similar changes across the music industry, fostering a more sustainable environment for creators.
