YouTube and Google Pledge $15 Million for Los Angeles Wildfire Relief

Google and YouTube have pledged $15 million to support Los Angeles fire relief efforts through various organizations including Emergency Network Los Angeles, American Red Cross, the Center for Disaster Philanthropy, and the Institute for Nonprofit News.

YouTube will also provide production facilities to affected creators and artists once it's safe to reopen their offices, and plans to organize community events supporting recovery efforts.

YouTube CEO Neal Mohan emphasized Los Angeles's importance as an entertainment hub, stating, "Los Angeles is the heart of entertainment and storytelling and has an impact on culture all over the world."

Other major tech companies have also contributed to relief efforts:

  • Snap: $5 million in immediate aid distributed by CEO Evan Spiegel and co-founder Bobby Murphy
  • Meta: $4 million combined donation from Mark Zuckerberg, Priscilla Chan, and Meta, including cash and advertising credits
  • Additional support from entertainment companies including Disney, Comcast, Paramount, Universal, Netflix, Amazon, and Warner Bros. Discovery

The funds will support various organizations providing critical assistance, including:

  • American Red Cross
  • Direct Relief
  • Los Angeles Regional Food Bank
  • California Fire Foundation
  • World Central Kitchen
  • After the Fire USA
  • CCF Wildlife Recovery Fund

Meta has also activated its Safety Check feature, which over 400,000 people have used to inform family and friends of their safety during this crisis.
