Roper joined Dualtone in 2002 as an intern and rose to become President and Partner. During his tenure, he was instrumental in signing and releasing over 200 albums, leading to multiple Grammy nominations, four Grammy wins, and several Americana Music Association awards.
His notable achievements include championing critically acclaimed albums by artists such as The Lumineers, Gregory Alan Isakov, Mt. Joy, Shakey Graves, and Chuck Berry, among others.
Jeremiah Fraites of The Lumineers shared a touching memory: "When we were touring in our 15-passenger van, Paul showed up to the parking lot behind the venue in Nashville with beer and pizza. It was a small gesture on his side, but a massive one for us."
As a visionary leader, Roper pioneered what he called "Amerikinda," celebrating diverse songwriting across various genres. Under his leadership, Dualtone Music became a respected independent label known for its artist-friendly approach.
"Paul led Dualtone and his team with dedication, authenticity, humor, and kindness," stated the label's official announcement. "His legacy of kindness, integrity, and deep love for music will continue to inspire us all."
Roper is survived by his wife and four children. His family requests that donations be made to Corner to Corner in his memory.
