
Grammy Academy Removes J-Kwon's Songwriting Credit from Shaboozey's 'A Bar Song (Tipsy)' Nomination
The Recording Academy has removed rapper J-Kwon from Grammy eligibility as a songwriter for Shaboozey's "A Bar Song (Tipsy)," a current nominee for 2025 Song of the Year.

Initially credited alongside Joe Kent and Mark Williams, J-Kwon (Jerrell C. Jones) will no longer be considered a songwriter. According to Academy rules, the writers of the interpolated track "Tipsy" will only be eligible for a certificate if the song wins.
"A Bar Song (Tipsy)" dominated charts for over four months, matching Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" record with 19 weeks at #1. The original "Tipsy" peaked at #2 on Billboard Hot 100 in April 2004.
The song has earned Shaboozey multiple Grammy nominations, including:
- Song of the Year
- Best Country Song
- Best Country Solo Performance
- Best New Artist
Shaboozey's success expanded through his collaboration with Beyoncé on "Cowboy Carter," with their track "Spaghetti" nominated for Best Melodic Rap Performance.
