According to the Alabama Highway Patrol, Stone was traveling in a 2021 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van when it flipped over and was struck by a 2021 Freightliner Cascadia truck. While other passengers survived and were taken to Baptist Medical Center, Stone was pronounced dead at the scene.

Stone's remarkable career began in Columbia, South Carolina, where she started singing in church at a young age. At 16, she co-founded The Sequence, the first all-female rap group on Sugar Hill Records, known for their hit "Funk You Up." She later joined Vertical Hold before launching a successful solo career.

Her solo achievements included the Billboard Adult R&B chart-topper "No More Rain (In This Cloud)," which remained at #1 for 10 weeks. Other notable hits included "Baby" (with Betty Wright), "Brotha," and "Wish I Didn't Miss You." In 2000, she joined Clive Davis' J Records, alongside artists like Alicia Keys and Luther Vandross.

Stone was scheduled to perform at the CIAA Men's Championship basketball game on the day of her passing. Her children, Diamond and Michael Archer, released a statement expressing their devastation at the unexpected loss. CIAA Commissioner Jacqie McWilliams-Parker praised Stone's incredible talent and inspiring presence, while the organization held a moment of silence in her honor.
