The lawsuit claims the initial rape allegations were "knowingly false" and "malicious," deliberately timed to cause maximum damage to Carter's reputation. The original case, filed in October and later amended to include Jay-Z as a defendant, accused him and Diddy of sexual assault at an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty in 2000.

Carter's legal team alleges that before making the accusations public, Buzbee sent an "extortionate" demand letter and anonymous lawsuit. They claim the accuser admitted to Buzbee that she hadn't been sexually assaulted, but he encouraged pursuing the false story for financial gain.

The rapper seeks damages for:

  • Malicious prosecution
  • Abuse of process
  • Civil conspiracy
  • Defamation

Buzbee responded to Variety, defending his client and dismissing the countersuit as meritless. He claims Carter's investigators have harassed and intimidated his client, who "stands by her claims." Buzbee also alleges these investigators have been recorded offering payment to people to sue him and his firm.

The attorney further states that the quotes attributed to Jane Doe in the lawsuit are fabricated, calling the countersuit "another attempt to intimidate and bully" his client.
