Jelly Roll Exposes Chart Manipulation After Securing Billboard #1, Praises Rod Wave's Streaming Success
Jelly Roll recently exposed alleged chart manipulation in the music industry during an appearance on ESPN's The Pat McAfee Show, specifically regarding the competition for the top spot on the Billboard 200 charts.

The controversy centered around a suspicious addition of 40,000 album sales from a third-party aggregator just before the final Friday count. This occurred during a tight race between Jelly Roll's "Beautifully Broken" and Charli XCX's "It's Completely Different But Also Still Brat" remix album, with both projects initially projected to debut in the low 150,000 range.
Luminate, the official chart data provider, ultimately rejected these questionable sales. As a result, Jelly Roll secured the #1 position on the Billboard 200, with Rod Wave's "Last Lap" and Charli XCX's album following behind.
Despite his chart victory, Jelly Roll acknowledged that Rod Wave actually achieved higher streaming numbers, nearly matching the combined streams of the other competing artists. He noted that his own success was largely due to traditional album sales through retailers like Walmart and Target.
Key Points:
- Luminate rejected 40,000 suspicious album sales
- Final chart positions: 1. Jelly Roll, 2. Rod Wave, 3. Charli XCX
- Rod Wave dominated streaming metrics
- Traditional retail sales boosted Jelly Roll's numbers
