Jim Jones: Drake's Legal Action Against UMG and Spotify Is a 'Power Move' That Won't Hurt His Street Cred
Jim Jones has defended Drake's legal actions against Universal Music Group (UMG) and Spotify, characterizing them as strategic business decisions rather than moves that should affect Drake's reputation.

Speaking on Respectfully: The Justin Laboy Show, Jones emphasized that Drake's legal petitions represent a "power move" in the business realm, separate from street credibility. "Any time a person like that does some shit that he knows [...] it ain't just small fries," Jones stated.
Jones highlighted that Drake's actions are purely business-focused, noting, "Him doing that with business is no reflection of the streets." He drew parallels to other corporate lawsuits, stating, "People win lawsuits all the time against companies and nobody hold that against them."
The petitions in question, filed by Drake in November, allege that UMG and Spotify artificially inflated the success of Kendrick Lamar's diss track "Not Like Us" through bots and payola schemes. Drake also filed a separate petition against UMG for defamation, regarding lyrics in Lamar's track that labeled him a "certified pedophile."
Jones specifically pointed out that Drake isn't suing Kendrick Lamar directly, comparing the situation to other corporate lawsuits: "Is it any different than him suing Walmart? I really don't care either-or, but thinking about what it is, like c'mon man, n—as sue people for dollars all the time."
