During the latest episode of The Joe Budden Podcast, Budden accused Drake of code-switching – acting like a "Karen" with the UMG lawsuit while simultaneously associating with Top5, who recently made threatening remarks about Kendrick Lamar.
"If you a Karen, be a Karen, but you code-switching," Budden stated, criticizing Drake's seemingly contradictory behavior. He expressed particular concern about Drake's association with individuals making threats while simultaneously pursuing legal action through traditional channels.
Budden also shared his nostalgia for Drake's earlier career persona: "I miss the original Drake — the n—a with the Blackberry and the corny T-shirts that couldn't dress with no beard that everybody just wanted to get next to and get some of that corny sauce."
The former rapper expressed deeper concerns about the current state of hip-hop culture, lamenting the lack of unity and authenticity. "There's no unity in hip-hop [anymore], none of y'all know what culture means," Budden stated, adding that the current direction of hip-hop culture represents a significant departure from its roots.
Budden concluded by suggesting that while younger generations might embrace the current version of hip-hop, it has strayed significantly from the culture he originally fell in love with.
