Singer John Mayer and filmmaker McG are purchasing the historic Jim Henson Studio lot in Hollywood for a reported $60 million. The property, located at 1416 N. La Brea in Los Angeles, has a rich history spanning over a century in the entertainment industry.

The lot, which currently houses The Jim Henson Company and formerly served as A&M Records headquarters, was first established as Charlie Chaplin Studios in 1917. The Henson Company acquired the property in 1999 for $12.5 million, with its most recent appraisal valued at $21.9 million in 2017.

The sale comes as The Jim Henson Company seeks to consolidate its operations by combining its production company with Jim Henson's Creature Shop, currently located in Burbank, into a single facility. The current Hollywood lot cannot accommodate both operations.

Mayer already maintains offices at the Jim Henson lot and uses its recording studio facilities. A spokesperson for Mayer confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that both he and McG are under contract to purchase the property, though the exact purchase price remains undisclosed.

The Henson family has explicitly stated they are not considering offers from the Church of Scientology, which had reportedly shown interest in the property.
