Lil Wayne has announced plans to release "something special" on February 6, coinciding with Kendrick Lamar's exclusive Apple Music Radio interview. The announcement comes after Wayne expressed disappointment about not being selected as the Super Bowl LIX halftime performer in his hometown of New Orleans.

In a recent Instagram video, Wayne stated, "Y'all know I'm not gon' be there this week. Which means, I guess there's a seat to fill. Shout out to New Orleans, but I've been working on something very special. I've got something exciting coming for you. Thursday the 6th."

The timing is particularly noteworthy given the recent tension between Wayne and Kendrick Lamar. On his album GNX, Lamar referenced Wayne with the lyrics "Used to bump Tha Carter III, I held my Rollie chain proud / Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down."

Wayne responded to these lyrics on social media, tweeting: "Man wtf I do? I just be chillin' and dey still kome 4 my head. Let's not take kindness for weakness. Let this giant sleep. I beg u all. No one really wants destruction, not even me but I shall destroy if disturbed. On me. Love."

In a conversation with Skip Bayless, Wayne later clarified his feelings about both Kendrick's lyrics and the Super Bowl situation: "He didn't let me down. There was no explanation that was needed for that. I think I understand those words. His hard work is the reason why he made it there, and obviously that part about letting me down is me being upset and disappointed about not getting that spot."

The February 6 release will mark Wayne's first major announcement of 2024, with fans eagerly anticipating what the "something special" might be.
