Meta Launches $50M Creator Fund to Boost Mixed Reality Development on Horizon Worlds
Meta has launched a $50 million Creator Fund alongside its new Meta Horizon Worlds desktop editor to drive mixed reality development and mobile content creation.

The fund aims to incentivize developers to build experiences for Meta's mixed reality headsets while expanding reach to mobile users who don't own Quest headsets. Creators can earn monthly bonuses based on their worlds' performance metrics including time spent, retention, and in-world purchases.
Key Features of the Program:
- Available in 19 countries including US, UK, Canada, and newly added European nations
- Open to creators aged 13+ in eligible regions
- New desktop editor supporting custom model imports and TypeScript
- Mobile optimization tools for interactive experiences
- AI-powered sound effects and ambient audio (US only)
- $1 million mobile-focused competition launching March 11
The desktop editor allows creators to build worlds using familiar 2D and 3D development workflows on PC, making development more accessible. This approach mirrors Roblox's Creator Fund model, though Meta's program rewards based on engagement rather than upfront payments.
