Meta Users Create Unauthorized Chatbots of Taylor Swift, Bieber Despite Ban
Meta's user-generated AI chatbots are being misused to impersonate celebrities and religious figures, despite explicit terms of service forbidding such practices. These unauthorized chatbots, discovered by NBC News, include impersonations of Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Elon Musk, and various religious figures.
Users bypass Meta's automated checks through intentional misspellings and loose resemblances. For example, a "Taylor Swif" bot using a brunette guitarist's avatar exchanged over 2,000 messages with Instagram users before removal.

Meta's terms specifically prohibit creating chatbots of:
- Living people without permission
- People who died in the last 100 years
- Religious figures
- Copyrighted characters
When contacted by NBC News, Meta promptly removed the violating chatbots and stated they're "continuously improving detection measures." Users can report suspicious AI chatbots for review.
This situation emerged just six months after Meta introduced user-generated chatbots across Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp. Previously, Meta had official celebrity AI chatbots featuring Kendall Jenner, Tom Brady, and Snoop Dogg, with celebrities reportedly earning up to $5 million for six hours of studio work. These official celebrity chatbots were discontinued to focus on user-generated content.
