In response to President Trump's January 27th executive order temporarily barring entry from seven Muslim-majority nations and halting refugee admissions, over 400 labels and artists have joined Bandcamp's protest initiative.
Bandcamp CEO Ethan Diamond announced that 100% of the company's share of proceeds from purchases made on Friday will be donated to the ACLU. The protest, organized under the hashtag "#NoBanNoWall," has gained significant support from prominent names in the independent music community.
Notable participants include:
- Kill Rock Stars
- Tompkins Square
- Alanna McArdle
- Merge Records
Some artists have made extended commitments to the cause. Son Lux will donate proceeds from "At War with Walls and Mazes" to the ACLU for the next four years, while Xiu Xiu has pledged all Bandcamp revenues to the organization during the same period. Other participants have chosen to support different organizations, such as the Nigerian Muslim Association of New York.
Diamond, himself a descendant of immigrants, emphasized in his message that the executive order "violates the very spirit and foundation of America," noting that 98% of U.S. citizens, including the President, come from immigrant backgrounds.
