Snapchat Will Pay $1 Million Daily to Reward Top Content Creators
Snapchat is launching Spotlight, a new feature that rewards top video creators with a share of $1 million daily prize pool through 2020. The rewards can be awarded to individual creators or split among several top performers, regardless of their account status or following.

The platform will use a proprietary algorithm to determine rankings and feature content in a new dedicated Spotlight tab. Similar to TikTok's Discover tab, this feature allows any creator to potentially go viral, not just established accounts.
The initial rollout includes 11 countries:
- United States
- Canada
- Australia
- New Zealand
- United Kingdom
- Ireland
- Norway
- Sweden
- Denmark
- Germany
- France
Snapchat emphasizes strict content moderation for Spotlight, prohibiting:
- False information
- Conspiracy theories
- Hate speech
- Explicit content
- Bullying
- Harassment
- Violence
This strategic move comes as Snapchat experiences significant growth, with daily users increasing 18% to 249 million in Q3 2020, and revenue jumping 52%. The platform aims to differentiate itself from competitors who have previously copied its Stories feature, while potentially attracting creators from platforms like TikTok.
All submissions must comply with community guidelines to be eligible for rewards. The feature will expand to additional countries after the initial testing phase.
