Social Media Giants Race to Launch TikTok-Style Features Amid US Ban Threat
As TikTok faces potential US ban, major social platforms are quickly launching similar features to capture migrating users.
Instagram has unveiled Edits, a video-editing app similar to TikTok's CapCut. The new app allows users to edit videos for posting on any platform, not exclusively Instagram. Adam Mosseri, Instagram's head, emphasized their commitment to providing compelling creative tools regardless of current events. Edits is available for iOS preorder, with Android release scheduled for February.

X (formerly Twitter) is introducing a dedicated video tab, enabling users to easily access and scroll through short-form video content. This addition aims to streamline video discovery and consumption on the platform.
Meanwhile, Bluesky is developing Flashes, a photo-sharing app through an independent developer, positioning itself as an alternative to mainstream social platforms.
Interestingly, many users are migrating to Rednote, another Chinese-owned platform, suggesting that users prioritize preferred features over ownership concerns and may be reluctant to return to Meta-owned platforms.
These rapid developments highlight the social media landscape's quick adaptation to potential market changes and user preferences, with platforms racing to fill any void TikTok's potential exit might create.
