TikTok US Traffic Rebounds to 90% Despite Recent App Store Removal
TikTok's US traffic has largely recovered to pre-shutdown levels, currently sitting just 10% below normal, despite recent app store bans and a temporary service interruption that caused an 85% usage drop earlier this month.

According to Cloudflare Radar's head of data insight David Belson, DNS traffic for TikTok-related domains has shown strong recovery since the brief 14-hour shutdown. The platform maintained most of its user base despite being removed from Google and Apple app stores.
While competing apps like RedNote experienced temporary traffic spikes during TikTok's downtime, these gains quickly diminished once TikTok resumed operations. "DNS traffic fell rapidly once the shutdown ended, and has continued to slowly decline over the past week and a half," Belson noted.
The shutdown occurred after the Supreme Court upheld a law requiring ByteDance to sell its US TikTok operations or face a ban. However, President Trump postponed enforcement by signing an executive order extending the deadline to April 5.
Several prominent figures have expressed interest in acquiring TikTok's US operations, including:
- Frank McCourt
- Kevin O'Leary
- YouTube creator MrBeast
- Potential partial ownership by Elon Musk or Oracle chairman Larry Ellison
Meanwhile, content creators continue to thrive on TikTok, though some have diversified to platforms like YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels. Meta has been actively courting creators with promotional deals to prioritize Instagram content.
