DWA Records, founded in 1989 by Roberto Zanetti and Francesco Bontempi, is known for iconic tracks including:

  • "The Rhythm of the Night" by Corona
  • "Happy" and "Uh La La" by Alexia
  • "Baila" by Zucchero

The founders bring significant musical heritage to the deal:

  • Roberto Zanetti (stage name Savage/Robyx): Known for hits like "A Love Again" and "Goodbye," and producing for artists like Corona and Ice MC
  • Francesco Bontempi (Lee Marrow): Started as a drummer, later produced hits including "Do You Want Me" and "Shanghai"

Italo Disco emerged in Italy during the late 1970s, characterized by electronic drums, synthesizers, and English lyrics. The genre significantly influenced modern Eurobeat and Italo house music.

Warner Music executives emphasize their commitment to preserving and promoting the catalog globally. The acquisition represents a strategic move to expand Warner's presence in non-English markets while ensuring these influential recordings reach new audiences worldwide.

Key executives involved in the deal include:

  • Pico Cibelli (President, Warner Music Italy)
  • Santiago Menéndez-Pidal (President, Southern Europe, Warner Chappell Music)
  • Simon Robson (President, EMEA, Recorded Music, WMG)
  • Kevin Gore (President, Global Catalog, Recorded Music)
  • Guy Moot and Carianne Marshall (Co-Chairs, Warner Chappell Music)
