CD Baby Confirms Layoffs, Multiple Positions Eliminated in Restructuring
CD Baby, owned by Downtown Music Holdings, has implemented layoffs affecting multiple staff members, primarily in the Creator Services customer support unit. While the exact number remains unconfirmed, sources indicate approximately 20+ employees have been impacted.
The company released an official statement explaining the restructuring: "We are consolidating certain CD Baby functions with Downtown and re-allocating resources towards long-term growth opportunities. Unfortunately, this has resulted in the elimination of certain roles and positions at CD Baby."

This development follows a broader trend of layoffs across the music industry in 2024:
- Warner Music Group: Fourth round of cuts in 18 months, affecting 750 people
- Universal Music Group: 4% workforce reduction (400-800 jobs)
- Tidal: 25% staff reduction (100 employees)
- iHeartRadio: 5% workforce reduction (500 positions)
- Additional layoffs at Distrokid, Spotify, BMG, and Cumulus
CD Baby emphasized their continued commitment to innovation and artist services, stating they will maintain their "music-first and pioneering approach" while building services that benefit artists now and in the future.
