Speaking on The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne argued that Lamar shouldn't have performed "Not Like Us," his Grammy-winning Drake diss track, saying "Kendrick is bigger than 'Not Like Us.' It does not define him or who he is."
The 13-minute performance drew 135.7 million viewers, setting a new record for Super Bowl halftime shows. Despite legal threats from Drake's team to Universal Music Group, Lamar performed "Not Like Us" with most Drake references intact, only censoring the word "pedophile."
Notable moments included:
- A duet with SZA (Drake's ex-girlfriend and Lamar's upcoming tour partner)
- A surprise appearance by Serena Williams (another Drake ex)
- Multiple references to the ongoing Drake feud
- A "game over" message concluding the show
Charlamagne concluded, "You should never go past the mark you aim for in victory. I just wouldn't give my opp and his minions that kind of love on that big-ass stage."
The performance surpassed previous viewership records held by both Usher's 2024 show and Michael Jackson's iconic 1993 performance.
