The action resulted in shutting down 11 resources, including mobile domains, which collectively averaged 3 million monthly visits from Italy alone. Stream ripping, representing 30% of music piracy in Italy, has grown by 10% in early 2024, reaching approximately 10 million monthly accesses.
Key blocked sites include:
- ytmp3.nu
- lumieremusic.net
- ytmp3.im
- projectspark.ca
- downmp3.yt
- y2meta.app
- x2mate.com
- yt5.io
This enforcement follows Italy's 2019 court ruling that declared stream ripping illegal, empowering AGCOM to combat copyright violations effectively.
Luca Vespignani, General Secretary of FPM and CEO of DcP, praised the collaboration with AGCOM, highlighting its significant impact on reducing illegal music access in Italy.
Recent EU piracy trends show:
- 3.3% increase in digital piracy since 2022
- Distribution of pirated content: TV (48%), publications (28%), films (11%), software (7%), music (6%)
- 58% of piracy occurs via streaming, while 32% through downloads
- 30% increase in live sports event piracy between 2021-2022
