Paramount Suspends CMT Music Awards, MTV EMAs for 2025 Amid Merger Plans
Paramount Global is pausing several major entertainment events in 2025 as part of a strategic restructuring effort amid its pending merger with Skydance Media. The affected events include the CMT Music Awards, MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs), Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards Mexico, and the MTV MIAWs.

Bruce Gillmer, Paramount's president of music, music talent, programming and events, announced the decision through an internal memo, emphasizing that the pause is temporary while the company "reimagines and optimizes" its events portfolio. He assured that events remain a key component of Paramount's music strategy.
This decision follows Paramount's broader cost-cutting initiatives announced in August, which included:
- 15% reduction in US workforce
- Closure of Paramount TV Studios
- Restructuring of CBS News operations
- Expected savings of approximately $500 million
The changes come as Paramount prepares for its merger with Skydance Media, expected to close in the first half of 2024. Despite these adjustments, the company maintains its commitment to delivering "iconic, unforgettable performances and moments that drive pop culture."
