Key Acquisitions Include:
- Jim Croce's "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" and "Time in a Bottle"
- Captain & Tennille's "Love Will Keep Us Together"
- Zapp's "More Bounce to the Ounce"
Through sampling, the catalog also features interests in works recorded by notable hip-hop artists including:
- 2Pac (via Ronnie Hudson's "West Coast Poplock" in "California Love")
- Ne-Yo
- Kanye West
- Drake
- Eminem
- Snoop Dogg
- Ice Cube
- Rick Ross
The transaction represents a significant move in Reservoir's continued focus on hip-hop acquisitions, following recent deals with Snoop Dogg, Death Row, and 2Pac collaborator Big D Evans.
Stephen Moelis, former president of music publishing at Lastrada, called the sale "the natural next step" for the company his family built over 40 years ago. Reservoir COO Rell Lafargue committed to preserving the Moelis family's legacy while ensuring the catalog's continued success.
This acquisition joins other major music IP transactions in recent years, including Sony Music's reported $600 million purchase of 50% of Michael Jackson's catalog. With significant funds already allocated for song rights, the IP acquisition market is expected to remain active throughout 2025.
