Rome Ramirez to Exit Sublime With Rome as Bradley Nowell's Son Poised to Take Over
Rome Ramirez has announced his departure from Sublime With Rome at the end of 2024, paving the way for Bradley Nowell's son, Jakob, to potentially become the band's new frontman.
The transition began taking shape when Jakob Nowell performed with original Sublime members Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh at a Los Angeles benefit show for Bad Brains leader H.R. on December 11. This marked Gaugh's first performance with the band since his departure in 2011.

Rome Ramirez, who has fronted Sublime With Rome for the past 15 years, shared on Instagram: "The upcoming performances over the next year will allow us to reflect on countless incredible memories together!" He confirmed his plans to focus on solo music after his departure.
Jakob Nowell, who was an infant when his father Bradley passed away in 1996, has been performing with his own band, Jakob's Castle, for over a decade. Billboard reports that Jakob and his mother have agreed with Wilson and Gaugh to relaunch Sublime under the management of Kevin Zinger and Joe Escalante.
The potential transition has already garnered interest from festival talent buyers, who are submitting offers to book the reformed lineup. Any official Sublime relaunch with Jakob would likely occur after 2024, following the conclusion of Sublime With Rome's touring commitments.
Current tour dates:
- Jakob's Castle: Opening for G Love & Special Sauce through March 2024
- Sublime With Rome: New Zealand tour in February 2024
This development follows a history of legal compromises regarding the Sublime name, including a previous lawsuit by Bradley's widow, Troy Dendekker Nowell, which led to the "Sublime With Rome" modification.
