Songwriter Melvin "4rest" Moore has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against R&B singer Chloe Bailey, Parkwood Entertainment, and Columbia Records over disputed song credits and compensation.

The lawsuit concerns three songs from Bailey's album "Trouble In Paradise": "Favorite," "Might As Well," and "Same Lingerie." While Moore is credited on two of the songs according to BMI's Songview repertory, he claims he wasn't properly compensated for his contributions.

Moore alleges the songs were written from his personal experiences, and he never granted consent for their commercial use. Despite attempting to resolve the issue through nearly 200 days of "good-faith attempts" and issuing a DMCA takedown notice, the matter remained unresolved.

The songwriter, who overcame two years of homelessness before achieving success, is seeking:

  • Up to $150,000 for each intentional violation
  • A court order to halt commercial use of the songs
  • Investigation of revenue from unauthorized use
  • Repayment of all profits
  • Proper credit attribution
  • Punitive damages of $5 million per song

The lawsuit specifically cites claims of copyright infringement, fraudulent misrepresentation, DMCA violations, civil conspiracy, and deceptive business practices.
